Congratulations to the Balti team, captained by Ron Weight, supported by Chris Ballard, Lynn Dewfall, Ron Kitchen and his replacement Bill Brown, James Rayne, Sally Urlwin & Rosemary Wilman for winning the 2018 ABC League. Runners-up were the Korma team, just 6 points behind.
Cristal League Champions
Very many congratulations to Ladies Captain Doreen Weight and all her team members for winning the Cristal League for the first time in the club's history, pipping Supreme by just one point, to become the 2018 Cristal League Champions
Sutton & Epsom League
Auriol's Mens team finished seventh in the Sutton & Epsom League, our highest placing for a long time.
Racal Decca Mixed League
The season ended with Auriol's mixed team finishing in a disappointing 10th place (out of 14) in the RDML table. This is despite our getting through to the Final of both the Peter Ungless Shield and the RDML Presentation Day competition. Our challenge for 2019 is to get back up into the top 5 again!
Peter Ungless Final
The Final of the Peter Ungless Shield (a trophy competed for by the clubs in the Racal Decca Mixed League) took place against Carshalton BC at the neutral Chessington BC ground. In a hard-fought contest, the teams from Auriol (Geoff Izzard, John Ainsworth, Doreen Weight and Brenda Lisney; Di Newman, James Seeley, Rosemary Wilman and Chris Munro) initially took the lead, but slowly but surely Carshalton adapted to the difficult playing conditions and moved ahead, to emerge as overall winners of the Shield.
More RDML success for Auriol
In the knock-out competition held at the RDML Presentation Day, the team from Auriol (Di Newman, Rosemary Wilman, Geoff Izzard & David Regan) reached the final, topping a group comprising the hosts, Ember, plus Carshalton, Cheam, Hook & Southborough and Epsom Court. In the final they met the team from Malden Lime Grove, who emerged the overall winners.
Congratulations to the Auriol team of Brenda Lisney, Anneke Simms and Rosemary Wilman for reaching the Final of the Cheam Ladies B.C. New Bowlers Triples Event. They beat teams from Malden Manor, Sutton and Coulsdon B en route to the Final, just losing out to Cheam Fields at the last hurdle.
After a nail-biting finish to the Home and Away legs of our annual Hazel Williams Trophy match against Burpham BC, Auriol won back the Trophy. The first leg ended in a draw, but Auriol won the second leg, at Burpham, by 5 shots (76-71), thus clinching the series.
